Sydnones

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011720

A class of five-membered heterocyclic mesoionic compounds, characterized by a 1,2,3-oxadiazole ring with a carbonyl group and a formal positive charge on the ring nitrogen and a negative charge on the exocyclic oxygen. They are stable dipolar compounds that do not possess a conventional uncharged canonical form. Sydnones are often used in cycloaddition reactions.
