Sym-

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011721

A prefix used in chemical nomenclature, particularly for substituted benzene derivatives, to indicate a symmetrical arrangement of substituents around the ring. For example, in 1,3,5-trichlorobenzene, the three chlorine atoms are symmetrically positioned. This prefix is also used for other symmetrical structures, such as in 'sym-tetrachloroethane'.
