Phospho
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008777
A prefix in biochemical nomenclature, used in place of phosphono, for the phosphoryl group -P(=O)(OH)2 attached to a heteroatom, usually oxygen but also nitrogen as in phosphocreatine. Phosphocholine, Me3N+CH2CH2OP(=O)(OH)O-, shows it on an oxygen. The same word serves as an infix for phosphoric diesters, as in glycerophosphocholine.
