Phosphoranes
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013391
Neutral pentacoordinate phosphorus compounds containing a central phosphorus atom with five covalently bonded substituents, having the general formula PR₅. The parent compound is PH₅, also known as λ⁵-phosphane. These species adopt a trigonal bipyramidal geometry, which can undergo rapid intramolecular ligand exchange through a process called Berry pseudorotation.
