Effective molarity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003589
The rate constant for an intramolecular reaction (first order, in s^-1) divided by the rate constant (second order, in M^-1 s^-1) for the corresponding reaction between separate molecules. The quotient therefore has units of concentration, and it equals the concentration of the reaction partner that would be needed in the bimolecular reaction to make it as fast as the intramolecular one. The same ratio idea can be applied to equilibrium constants.
