Effective length of the capillary
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003588
The distance from the point where sample is injected to the point where it is detected, along a separation capillary used in capillary electrophoresis or capillary liquid chromatography. When detection is by an optical window on the column, this distance is typically a few centimetres shorter than the full capillary, which extends on to the outlet, but the two are equal if detection takes place at the outlet, as in CE-MS. It is the length used in calculating migration velocity and apparent electrophoretic mobility.
