Organocatalysis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013367
A form of catalysis that uses a small, metal-free organic molecule to accelerate a chemical reaction. The catalyst, which is not consumed in the reaction, participates in the formation of new chemical bonds through mechanisms involving covalent intermediates or non-covalent interactions. Unlike organometallic catalysis, it avoids the use of transition metals, relying on elements like carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen.
