Alcoholates

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012850

Salts formed from the deprotonation of an alcohol, resulting in an alkoxide anion (RO-) and a metal cation. These compounds are strong bases and nucleophiles, widely used in organic synthesis for reactions such as deprotonation, alkylation, and condensation. Sodium ethoxide (NaOCH2CH3) is a common alcoholate.
