Grignard reagents
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005031
Organomagnesium halides with the general formula R-Mg-X, where R is an alkyl or aryl group and X is a halogen (Cl, Br, I). These highly reactive compounds are strong nucleophiles and strong bases, widely used in organic synthesis for forming new carbon-carbon bonds. They are typically prepared by reacting an alkyl or aryl halide with magnesium metal in an ethereal solvent.
