Alkylidene groups
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000405
Divalent groups of the form R2C=, formed when two hydrogen atoms are removed from a single carbon of an alkane, so that carbon is attached to the rest of the molecule through a double bond. Ethylidene, CH3CH=, is one example. The simplest member is methylidene, =CH2, obtained from methane.
