Alkyl groups
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000401
Univalent functional groups derived from alkanes by the removal of one hydrogen atom. They consist solely of carbon and hydrogen atoms arranged in a chain or branched structure. The name of an alkyl group is formed by replacing the '-ane' suffix of the parent alkane with '-yl', such as methyl from methane or ethyl from ethane.
