Allylic substitution reaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000443
A chemical reaction in which an atom or group attached to an allylic carbon atom is replaced by another atom or group. The allylic carbon is saturated and adjacent to a carbon-carbon double bond. This reaction often proceeds through a carbocation intermediate that is resonance-stabilized by the adjacent double bond.
