Thickness of electrical double layer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011996
The characteristic distance over which the electrostatic potential around a charged surface in an electrolyte solution decays to a negligible value. This distance, often denoted by the Debye length, is inversely proportional to the square root of the ionic strength of the solution. It governs the range of electrostatic interactions between charged particles in colloidal systems.
