Peptizing agent
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004406
A chemical additive that disperses clay particles in drilling mud by reducing the attractive forces between them. This action prevents flocculation and maintains a stable, low-viscosity fluid. Common peptizing agents include lignosulfonates and polyphosphates, which are added in concentrations ranging from 0.5 to 5 pounds per barrel.
