Mud engineer

A specialist responsible for managing the properties of the drilling fluid, or mud, at a wellsite. This person conducts regular tests on the fluid's density, viscosity, filtration, and chemical properties to meet the specifications of the drilling program. The mud engineer directs the addition of chemicals and materials to the system to maintain fluid performance and address downhole problems like lost circulation or wellbore instability.
