Drilling-fluid engineer

A specialist responsible for the design, maintenance, and management of the drilling fluid system on a rig, also known as a mud engineer. This person conducts regular tests on the fluid's properties, such as density, viscosity, and pH, and prescribes chemical treatments or dilutions to maintain the required specifications. The drilling-fluid engineer works closely with the rig supervisor to manage fluid costs, solids control, and waste disposal in compliance with operational and environmental requirements.
