Closed mud system
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000702
A drilling fluid management approach where no mud or drilled cuttings are discharged into the environment at the rig site. This zero-discharge system processes all returned fluids and solids, recycling the liquid phase back into the active mud volume and treating the solids for transport and disposal offsite. Closed systems are required in environmentally sensitive areas and are implemented using solids control equipment like centrifuges and cuttings dryers.
