Centrifuge
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000627
A mechanical device used in solids control systems that separates fine drilled solids from drilling fluid by applying high rotational force. Mud is fed into a spinning bowl, where centrifugal force pushes denser solid particles to the wall for removal, while the cleaner, lighter liquid phase is discharged and returned to the active mud system. Centrifuges are typically classified by their bowl diameter, with common sizes on drilling rigs ranging from 14 to 24 inches.
