Diffuse reflectance

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003185

The reflection of electromagnetic radiation from a rough surface such that the reflected rays are scattered in many directions, rather than being reflected at a single angle. This phenomenon occurs when light penetrates the surface and interacts with the bulk material before being re-emitted. It is often used in spectroscopy for analyzing opaque or powdered samples.
