Stratification

The arrangement of organisms or environmental factors into distinct layers or strata within a habitat or ecosystem. This layering can be vertical, such as different canopy levels in a forest, or horizontal, like distinct zones in a lake. Stratification influences the distribution of species and the availability of resources.
