Epi-phase

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004030

The upper liquid layer in a system of two immiscible or partially miscible liquid phases that have separated after being mixed. This phase is the one with the lower density. In liquid-liquid distribution, the epi-phase is contrasted with the hypo-phase, which is the denser liquid that constitutes the bottom layer.
