Paste
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008538
A semi-solid dosage form intended for external application to the skin or mucous membranes, characterized by a high proportion of finely dispersed solid particles (20-50%) incorporated into a fatty base. This high solid content makes pastes stiffer and less greasy than ointments, providing a protective and absorbent barrier. Zinc oxide paste is a common example used for skin protection.
