split-barrel sampler
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-026409
A nonsealed soil sampling tool that is split longitudinally. The split barrel allows easy removal of soil cores. Some split-barrel samplers can hold stainless steel liners, which facilitate preservation of samples for chemical analysis (the steel liners minimize the loss of volatile organic compounds). Also known as a split-spoon sampler.
