Sampling in which sites are allocated to specific locations of concern (e.g., below discharges, in areas of particular land use, at stream junctions to isolate subwatersheds) for the purpose of trying to answer site-specific questions.\n\n2. Targeted Sampling (sometimes referred to as judgmental sampling) is a sampling approach where collection locations and times are selected based on prior knowledge and professional judgment rather than random and/or mathematical selection. Targeted sampling is often used when the source of contamination is known and/or supporting epidemiological and forensic data are available. Targeted sampling locations can also be added to supplement other sampling designs, such as grid and probabilistic sampling plans.",
