2. (Plural of taxon) A general term applied to any taxonomic element, population, or group irrespective of its classification level.

3. Plural of taxon; groupings of living organisms, such as phylum, order, family, genus, or species. Scientists organize organisms into taxa in order to better identify and understand them.
