Transient electromagnetics

Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-028539

An electromagnetic surveying method in which the waveform of the transmitted signal is a pulse, step function, ramp or other form which can be considered to be nonperiodic and in which measurements are made after the primary field has stopped changing (Shariff, 1973). Generally used as a sounding method for differentiating electrically contrasting geologic media. Also referred to as Time Domain Electromagnetics (TDEM).
