1. Any method, technique, or process designed to remove solids and/or pollutants from solid waste, waste-streams, effluents, and air emissions.

2. Methods used to change the biological character or composition of any regulated medical waste so as to substantially reduce or eliminate its potential for causing disease.

3. A narrative description of an audiovisual presentation that details all the main ideas and major sub-texts, along with a general description of the visual presentation that will be made of those ideas.

4. Any method, technique, or process designed to physically, chemically, or biologically change the nature of a hazardous waste.

5. Any process that changes the physical, chemical, or biological character of a waste to make it less of an environmental threat. Treatment can neutralize the waste, recover energy or material resources from it, render it less hazardous, or make it safer to transport, store, or dispose of.
