1. Any of various birds that swim on water or rely on aquatic environments, including ducks, geese and swans.

2. In North America, this term normally refers to members of the Family Anatida including ducks, geese, and swans. Elsewhere, the term may have a broader meaning to include other birds living on water such as divers/loons (Family Gaviidae) and grebes (Family Podicipedidae) as well as ducks, geese, and swans.
