A dated name for the smallest of the traditional type sizes, listed in nineteenth-century American printing manuals at about 1 point and ranked below German, Saxon and Norse. Bodies this small were only notional in the age of metal type, so the name appears in size tables rather than in actual printing. A 1-point body is about 0.35 mm high, far below the 4-point brilliant size that was really cast.
