An obsolete name for a size of metal type, equivalent to approximately 44 Didot points. This large display size was part of historical European typographic measurement systems that predated the widespread adoption of the Anglo-American point system. In the Fournier system, it was positioned between the gros-canon (40-point) and trismegiste (36-point) sizes, though naming conventions varied.
