Baby Bell

One of the seven Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs) formed from the 1984 breakup of the American Telephone and Telegraph Company's (AT&T) Bell System monopoly. These independent regional holding companies were created to provide local telephone exchange services in distinct geographical areas of the United States. Through a series of mergers and acquisitions since their creation, most of the original Baby Bells have been consolidated into the modern AT&T, Verizon, and Lumen Technologies.
