Bonnet

The hinged cover over the engine compartment of a motor vehicle, primarily used in British English. This panel, known as the hood in American English, protects the engine and other mechanical components from the elements and allows access for maintenance and repair. Bonnets are typically made of steel or aluminum and are secured with a latch mechanism.
