A set of United States federal regulations requiring automotive manufacturers to meet a sales-weighted average fuel economy for their fleet of new passenger cars and light trucks. The Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards are calculated for each model year's production. These standards are set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), while the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) calculates the average fuel economy levels for manufacturers.
