The Mine Safety and Health Administration is an agency of the United States Department of Labor that enforces safety and health regulations in all American mines. It conducts inspections, investigates accidents, and develops safety standards to reduce injuries, illnesses, and fatalities in the mining industry. MSHA operates under the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977.
