A long, thin rod of glass, either monochrome or containing intricate multicolored patterns, used as a component in glassworking. Canes are created by pulling and stretching a larger gather of molten glass, sometimes with layers of different colors or pre-formed patterns. Sections of these canes, called murrine, are arranged in a mold and fused together to create complex mosaic glass designs.
