An optical disc drive that reads data from compact discs (CDs) using a laser. It spins the disc at high speeds and uses a laser beam to detect microscopic pits and lands on the disc's surface, converting these reflections into digital data. This device was a standard component in personal computers for software installation and audio playback, with typical read speeds measured in multiples of 150 kilobytes per second.
