Cobbing

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001208

A manual sorting process in mining where valuable ore is separated from waste rock by hand. Workers visually inspect excavated material and break it apart with hammers to remove barren or low-grade pieces. This method is applied to high-value ores or when mechanical sorting is not economically viable, reducing the volume of material sent for further processing.
