Color separation
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001242
The process of breaking down a full-color original image into individual single-color components for four-color process printing. Each separation corresponds to one of the four standard process inks: cyan, magenta, yellow, and key (black), collectively known as CMYK. The resulting separations are transferred to individual printing plates, one for each color, which are then printed in succession to reproduce the original full-color image.
