Concrete masonry unit

A standard rectangular block, also known as a CMU, manufactured for use in building construction. Made from cast concrete with aggregates, these units are produced in both solid and hollow forms, with the hollow cores reducing weight and allowing for the insertion of reinforcement or insulation. The most common nominal size for a concrete masonry unit in the United States is 8 inches by 8 inches by 16 inches.
