Concretion

A hard, compact mass of mineral matter that forms within sedimentary rock or soil. These masses develop when minerals precipitate around a nucleus, such as a fossil fragment or grain, growing larger over time. Concretions vary widely in size and shape, from small nodules to large, spherical formations.
