Mudstone

A fine-grained sedimentary rock composed primarily of clay and silt-sized particles. It forms from the compaction and cementation of mud, which is a mixture of water and fine sediment. Mudstone is a common rock type found in sedimentary basins worldwide and can be a source rock for hydrocarbons.
