Metasediment

A sedimentary rock that has undergone metamorphism, changing its mineralogical and textural characteristics due to heat, pressure, or chemical alteration. The original sedimentary features, such as bedding planes or clastic grains, may still be discernible. Common examples include metamorphosed sandstones (quartzites) and shales (slates or schists).
