Protomylonite

A type of mylonitic rock that has undergone a relatively low degree of ductile deformation, characterized by a porphyroclastic texture where large relict grains are preserved within a finer-grained matrix. It represents an early stage in the development of a shear zone. The matrix typically constitutes less than 50% of the rock volume.
