Cataclastic
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000992
Describing a rock texture formed by the mechanical fracturing and crushing of pre-existing minerals due to intense brittle deformation. This process occurs under high differential stress and relatively low temperatures, often in fault zones. Cataclastic rocks include fault breccia and cataclasite, characterized by angular fragments in a finer-grained matrix.
