Cold working
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001232
The plastic deformation of a metal below its recrystallization temperature, which increases its strength and hardness. This process introduces dislocations into the crystal structure, hindering their movement and making the material more resistant to further deformation. Cold working is performed through methods such as rolling, drawing, or forging, and it can increase tensile strength by 20% to 50% depending on the material and degree of deformation.
