Work-harden
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006652
To increase the strength and hardness of a metal through plastic deformation, such as by cold rolling, drawing, or forging. This process introduces dislocations into the metal's crystal lattice, impeding their movement and making the material more resistant to further deformation. The degree of work hardening depends on the amount of strain applied and the material's properties.
