Cold work
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001231
To deform a metal plastically at a temperature below its recrystallization point, typically at room temperature. This process increases the metal's strength and hardness while decreasing its ductility. Cold work introduces dislocations into the crystal structure, leading to strain hardening, and is used in processes like drawing, rolling, and bending.
