Ductile fracture
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006943
A mode of material failure characterized by extensive plastic deformation before the final separation of the material. This type of fracture typically involves the formation and coalescence of microvoids, resulting in a rough, fibrous fracture surface. Metals like mild steel exhibit ductile fracture, absorbing considerable energy before breaking.
