Hydriding
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002941
The absorption of hydrogen by a metal, leading to the formation of metal hydrides within its lattice structure. This process can cause embrittlement, reducing the metal's ductility and fracture toughness, particularly in materials like zirconium, titanium, and certain steels. Hydriding is a concern in nuclear reactors and hydrogen storage applications, where it can degrade component performance.
