Total ionizing dose, a measure of the cumulative radiation exposure an electronic component or system receives. This exposure can degrade device performance or cause permanent damage by creating defects in semiconductor materials. Components designed for space or nuclear environments undergo testing to determine their TID tolerance, often expressed in rads or grays.
